With over 30 years of experience the best answer is apply two coats of paint. First I always start with painting the ceiling first with two coats of paint.  After enough time has passed and the paint of the ceiling is dry I would move to the walls.  Here comes the tricky part.  Making sure to be extra careful when trimming out the corners and edges of the walls that meet the ceiling.  I have witnessed Many amateurs or DIY-ers try to accomplish this feat yet fail then call me in to clean up their mess :)!

It is always better to use a professional painter if you don’t have much experience. Unless you like drips, spills, and blotches on your hardwood floor or carpet  :)!
